  • AlphaCrord/NJ:
  • The umbilical cord blood laboratory at Community Blood Services deals all private cord blood units in a same way. However, each bank will be having its own freezer to store at their laboratories.
  • The transplant quota is generally from the public bank that is at Community Blood Services.
  • The processing method (as on 1 September 2007) adopted by the Community Blood Services is the Sepax system provided by Biosafe company, Switzerland.
  • The Sepax system works scientifically. It is an automated cell separating system that relies on a laser beam detecting the density gradient between various cell layers once the blood has been reeled or spun in a centrifuge machine. The bag that contain the kit is sterile, sealed and is disposable i.e. for single use. Since the bag already contains an anti-coagulant, the bag earns BLA licensure from the FDA.
