CLIA - Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments

Dealing with human life is a matter that is to be carefully performed, especially when it comes to medical sciences and the testing. Considering this, in the year of 1988, US federal passed a law (CLIA) that applied to all the laboratories that deal with any kind of testing of the patient. Basically, they are not a quality Accreditation but are basic necessities that are legally required. They are different and are least concerned with Cord Blood banking.

However, these amendments differ from the Cord Blood Accreditation in one way as the laboratories that are registered with CLIA need to be inspected every two yearly, unlike Cord Blood banks that go yearly. The cost of CLIA substantiation generally borne by the laboratories and the entire program is dealt by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS).
