DESCRIPTION: Family Cord Blood Services is primarily a private Cord Blood bank, but parents are also offered a Public Donation OptionSM . In order to be eligible, the maternal blood test and the cord blood must both pass all the medical requirements for public donation, and the parents must agree to privately store the cord blood for 10 years before releasing it. This program costs an additional $250 on top of the regular private banking fee. The additional charge helps defray the $400 cost of HLA typing the cord blood so that it can be listed on a donor registry. If the cord blood is released for a transplant, parents are reimbursed for the processing and any storage fees.
