How long does it take to search for a cord blood donor?
At least a month less than to find a bone marrow donor. Median time to chose a Cord Blood unit is 13.5 days (range, 2-387), compared to median time to approve an unrelated bone marrow donor of 49 days (range, 32-293), in a summary of 171 donor searches over the course of a year at the University of Minnesota. The “additional time taken to obtain a BM donor was predominantly due to the additional 30-day interval (range, 10-101 days) required to clear the donor”.
